Profile
Graham Onions was born 9 September 1982 in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear. He is an English cricketer. He plays for Durham and England as a right arm fast-medium bowler and a right-hand tail-end batsman. After a successful start to the 2009 cricket season, Onions was selected to face the West Indies in Test cricket, and following success in the series, was retained for the 2009 Ashes series. In April 2010 Wisden Cricketers' Almanack named him as one of its five cricketers of the year for 2009. He is a brisk and tenacious seam bowler, with a name to delight headline writers, Graham Onions has become an integral cog in the England team. Another paceman off the Durham production line, his accurate bowling has almost taken a back foot to his steely last-wicket defiance in his short England career so far. He first caught the eye during the 2006 season and did enough to earn a place in England's provisional 30-man squad for the Champions Trophy, but it wasn't until 2009 that he secured his Test debut. He was called up to replace Darren Gough in England's one-day squad against Pakistan in September 2006 and that winter toured Bangladesh with England A.
